They caught Nick!
I've been eager to get here all day and post an update: Nick was CAUGHT last night and is back in custody!! I've known for about three weeks that a Marine detective was on the case, trying to nab him. I just didn't write about it here, in order to be extra cautious. I don’t know all the details, but Breanna says that he was indeed in Missouri, and someone who's a connection of Nick's brother's helped with tracking him down. (Sounds like the brother was in a halfway house or something like that, and whoever runs that was instrumental in the search.) Bree says that this weekend he'll be transported back to Camp Pendleton and the court marshal proceedings will start.
Breanna had mixed feelings at first about Nick's being back in the area, fearing that he'll somehow get free again. I told her the Marines are NOT going to let that happen! My dad (retired Marine Corps officer) says he'll in fact be in maximum security. So he's not going to break out.
She's also afraid that someday he'll find a way to get custody of the baby. I think that’s an irrational fear because I highly doubt any judge on earth would grant him custody, and I can't imagine he would even want custody of a child! Why would he, with the lifestyle he apparently lives? I know, stranger things have happened, but I just don’t believe this is an issue Breanna will have to fight. I'm more concerned about his going wacko when he's eventually a free man again, and coming after Breanna to hurt her. I hope he undergoes some serious psychotherapy while he's incarcerated, whether with the Marines or when he's turned over to the civil authorities.
Today Breanna felt more optimistic, saying that at least she'll know where Nick is. I'm sure it's been stressful wondering all the time if he was about to materialize out of nowhere. She's also been told that his pay will be reinstated, and some of it could come her way, since she's still legally his wife. (The divorce papers were returned that we mailed. His parents were evicted from that address.) So stay tuned for more developments in this story.
In other family news, I had lunch with Brenden and Kayla Monday. He needed me to meet him at the bank since he can’t access his account without me there ‘till he’s 18. I then bought us all burritos. They now have a dog, which I guess lives with Kayla, but they consider it both of theirs. It’s a puppy, an American bulldog, named “Vicious.” He’s really very sweet. (He was with them for this outing.) Kayla’s hair was magenta, but not in a spiked Mohawk this time. She has a very sharp looking lip piercing now, though. I wonder how she doesn’t injure Brenden when kissing him?! Brenden told me he’s writing again, which I was glad to hear. He’s really a very good writer. It’s just that he writes rather gory samurai type stories, mostly. But that’s his thing. I think he could publish, if he put his mind to it. He mentioned that he learned JRR Tolkien never intended to get published. He wrote all his books just for his own enjoyment. That somehow sparked Bren to start writing again. He’s writing longhand, though, since he doesn’t have a computer. That would certainly inhibit publishing plans! Oh well. He seems pretty content being the boss of his own bohemian life now, and we’re not fighting, so I guess it’s all “ok.” I pray for him intently everyday.
My mom and I went to the movies yesterday and saw "Dreamgirls." We really enjoyed it. It was longer than I expected, but really entertaining. You'd have to like, or at least tolerate well, R&B music from that era to enjoy the film, especially some loud, emotional numbers. For me, the songs in that style were the highlights of the movie and made me cry! Anyway, two thumbs up from mom and me.
Will close for now, until something else happens. It's just five weeks until baby Cassidy is due to make her appearance, so keep Bree in your thoughts and prayers in these final days. God bless...
