Catching up
Hi there~
Well, I don't know how, but it's mid-March already. Here's what's been going on around here....
Biggest news: we sold the "big house"! We finally got an offer the end of January--the first offer in 7 months. It wasn't a great offer, but great offers just don't exist in the current housing market. We basically broke even on the deal, which is better than many people are doing these days around here. It was a quick escrow, just 20 days. We had to hustle to empty the house, giving away tons of furniture, clothing, and all sorts of household goods. February 19 was the closing date, and that afternoon I drove away with the last load. I was sad, but also relieved. Dave had left town the day before with his car loaded down. I had run out of time to thoroughly purge our belongings as I wanted to, so my garage is still full of boxes and bags that need to be gone through. But I can take my time with that. At least the big goal has been accomplished, and the house is SOLD.
My townhouse is feeling more like "home" all the time. Yesterday I hosted Cassidy Joy's first birthday party here as my first "social" event. About 15 or so friends and family gathered to celebrate. It was fun, but took a lot of work because I wanted my place to be more unpacked than it was and better "put together" before entertaining. However, in the middle of the week I had a bit of a health scare that ended up robbing me of many hours, due to medical visits! It turned out to be nothing serious--just some strained muscles in my rib cage. But at one point, it seemed like it could be a kidney infection or stones, or some other malfunctioning organ. I was in a lot of pain. I'm still dealing with the discomfort, but just knowing it's not some organ falling apart makes it easier to cope with! It's slightly better each day. My family really pitched in to help with the party yesterday, thankfully. Today I gave myself a day of complete rest. I slept in, stayed home from church, took naps, and watched movies all day and evening. I think I'm feeling a little better.
My ankle is doing very well. I was on crutches for two weeks, and unable to drive for four full weeks (ugh!). Now I'm walking as driving as much as I want to and there's not too much pain. I have physical therapy once a week to work on my flexibility. This Wednesday is one more post-op appointment with the orthopedist, which should be my last.
So the dust is starting to settle in my "new life" now. The next big project is actually filing divorce papers. We're attempting a "do it yourself" type divorce since there are no areas of contention that have arisen. The house is sold and possessions are divided. We already have a business agreement between us as well. It shouldn't be too complicated... but I guess we'll see. We want to file soon so that the divorce will be final this year (it takes 6 mo's here in California).
Prayer requests this time: Please keep praying for Lori and her chemotherapy treatments. They don't sound fun at all. Her birthday is March 29 and our parents will go visit her then. I'm hoping to get up to see her sometime this spring, too. Also please pray for Breanna and Cassidy's health. They always seem to have some cold or other virus. I guess that's typical, but I wish they'd be able to fight things off better!
That's about it from Oceanside as of today. Thanks for reading and please keep in touch!
Lotsa love,
~Kim
